Cordwell Colossus (13.08.22)

Important Update 10.08.22. If you are still planning to enter / enter on the day, note that the start time has been moved to 8.45am due to the heat forecast. Also mandatory kit now includes 1 litre of water / drink. Time limit for the 20 mile event is now reduced to 7 hours.

The Cordwell Colossus – a summer trail run in North Derbyshire just on the edge of the Peak District. It is a lovely loop of challenging goodness on the beautiful trails, paths and woodlands of the Cordwell Valley with a little jink over into the neighbouring Linacre Valley for good measure.

The full loop is 20 miles with 840m ascent and there is an ultra option of 2 loops giving 40 miles and 1680 metres ascent. Both events are open to runners and fast walkers who can make the 12 hour cut off time.

Starting at Holmesfield Village Hall at 8.45am, you head north via woodland track before curving round in an anticlockwise direction over hilly farmland, woodland and rural trails. The views from the high ground are terrific and the route conditions range from highly runnable trails and lanes to more involving single track and trods. The route will be marked on the less obvious sections and GPX files and route notes will be available on this page. Basic understanding of navigation will be desirable. (check out the navigation training delivered by First Light Active). Downloadable maps will be emailed out to all entrants.
